It was not the result the Kabos Bantam 'AA' Broncos were looking for to begin Westerns.

Opening their run at the Western Canada Bantam 'AAA' Championship in Warman Thursday afternoon, the Broncos fell 5-0 to the Alberta champion, Fort Saskatchewan Rangers.

The Rangers found the back of the net twice in the opening frame, two more times in the second and rounded out the scoring with a goal with 6:16 left in the third.

Jacob Herman made 27 saves in the loss as Fort Saskatchewan outshot Swift Current 32-29.

Next up for the Broncos will be a Friday afternoon contest against the Winnipeg Monarchs.

The Monarchs will also enter the contest having dropped their opening game.

Winnipeg fell 2-0 to the Burnaby Winter Club Bruins on Thursday.

The one other scheduled game for the opening day of the tournament saw the host Sask Valley Vipers defeat Fort Saskatchewan 5-3.

Winnipeg and Swift Current will battle at 2:00pm on Friday.

The Broncos will then prepare for a two-game day on Saturday.
