The Max Kirkpatrick rink out of the Swift Current Curling Club came up short in their bid for one of the last qualifying spots for the SaskTel Tankard.

They lost to Jeff Hartung 8-7 in the C semi-final of the SaskTel Southern Men's Curling Playdowns this morning. Kirkpatrick led 7-6 heading into the 10th end, but Hartung made a hit for two with his last rock to win. Hartung will face Randy Bryden in one of two C finals this afternoon.

In the other C semi-final, Alan Batty defeated Derek Boe 8-5 in 11 ends, with Batty making a hit and stick for three in the extra end to win. The rink from Assiniboia will face Jason Krupski in the other C final.

Those C qualifiers will go at 2:00pm today from the Swift Current Curling Club at the Credit Union iplex, and the winners will join Brent Gedak, Chris Busby and Brent Goeres as the southern playdown qualifiers for the SaskTel Tankard in Assiniboia starting February 1st.
