Former Swift Current Broncos goaltender Eetu Laurikainen is up for a major honour in his home country.

He is one of three players nominated for the Jarmo Wasaman Memorial Award as the Liiga (Finnish Elite League) rookie of the year.

Laurikainen, Otso Rantakari and Juuso Pulli are up for the award ahead of Saturday's banquet.

In his rookie season with the Espoo Blues Laurikainent went 17-10-9 with a 2.10 goals against average and 0.933 save percentage.

The workhorse played 114 games in two seasons with the Broncos and was among the top goaltenders in the Western Hockey League.

Reports from a website in Finland suggest Laurikainen could be on his way to North America next season with an as yet unnamed team.
