Swift Current's Megan Rumpel is optimistic about the future after her top 5 performance in the Heptathlon at the Canada Summer Games.

She had mostly positive but somewhat mixed feelings.

"I was right around my personal best throughout my first day," Rumpel said. "In the second day things kind of went wrong for me and I didn't have the greatest performance. I was actually quite a bit underneath a lot of my personal bests."

"That was rather disappointing but still ending up 5th overall is good enough for me."

The University of Regina athlete has also been battling a nagging injury all summer.

It was tough to be close to a medal and fall short, but Rumpel still came out of the event on a positive note.

"I think my performance was fairly good for me personally," she said. "I made a lot of strides while I was there just in technique and mental stability as well. I'm happy."

She is now very optimistic about what the future could hold as she goes back into training.

"I was 3rd overall going into that second day and retaining that 3rd after the second day was a very real possibility," Rumpel said. "I am so excited for this up and coming season. I think I could do top 5s in CIS this season too and maybe even top 3."

"I have some very high expectations coming into this next season.

Rumpel tied for 2nd in the 100 metre Dash in 14.97 seconds, tied for 4th in high jump at 1.63 metres, finished third in shot put with a 10.43 metre throw, 6th in the 200 metres in 26.60 seconds.

On the second day she finished 5th in Long Jump with a 5.12 metre effort, 7th in javelin with a 27.07 metre throw and 9th in the 800 metres at 2:38.19.
