Tyler Steenbergen scored a spectacular goal in overtime as the Swift Current Broncos toppled the Spokane Chiefs 3-2 in a game with several momentum shifts.

"(Artyom) Minulin we talked about a little play before we got the puck," Steenbergen said. "He was gonna make a nice pick on the defender and I had lots of speed coming in I made a nice move just drove the net and luckily it went in."

"I think it's instinct. I want to go out there and end it. The more chances we get in front of the net the better chance we're going to get to put one in."

It's the second overtime winner of the season for Steenbergen and his tenth goal of the season.

"Those are highlight reel goals," said Broncos Associate Coach Ryan Smith. "You just sit back and go 'Oh My God.' The play set up got them confused coming out of the cycle. Steenbergen came out of the cycle, got a step on a guy and made a strong move. He played a really good game tonight. He blocked a shot at the end of (regulation), he made a strong move on (Lane Pederson's) goal... Tyler stepped up his game and not just in the scoring aspect. It's nice to see him rewarded."

Travis Child made 45 saves to help Swift Current get to a position to win the game in overtime.

"I thought it was a really good team effort," Child said. "Everybody was playing hard and playing desperate. The guys in front of me gave me a chance to see a lot of the pucks it made my job a lot easier."

Smith didn't feel the 47-27 shot advantage for Spokane really told the story of the game.

"We charted way different than what the scoreboard did," Smith said. "Travis was good but don't be alarmed by the shot clock. I thought when we needed Travis he was there. We knew they'd go to the net and we knew we had to defend that area. They're a hard working team, they're pretty honest but I thought for the most part we did a good job keeping them to the outside."

It was a couple of physical battles this weekend as the Broncos fell 2-1 to Seattle on Friday and earned the win over the Chiefs on Saturday.

"Besides the Victoria the last five games have been one-goal games," Smith said. "These are good they are good tests. These games this weekend yah they were physical, they're bigger than some of the teams in our division... I thought we leaned back and we had guys step up. Kade (Jensen) got into an altercation, we had some big hits and we were happy with that."

The victory snapped Swift Current's four game losing streak and was the first time they've scored more than twice since their 5-4 loss to Kamloops five games ago. The chances have been there and it's a good momentum boost for the Broncos to come out of the weekend with the victory.

"It was important after last night," Smith said. "Last night we arguably played better than we did tonight we had some opportunities early in that game and I thought (Seattle goaltender) Rylan Toth was a big difference last night. So tonight it was all about a rebound game and stopping this four game losing streak and we did a great job. The guys were really happy after and hopefully building a bit of momentum. This is our longest home stand of the year and we want to get some points before going out on the road."

Lane Pederson and Conner Chaulk scored for Swift Current in the first period and they carried a 2-1 lead to the third period. Spokane tied it up on a nice play to Tanner Wishnowski in front of the Broncos' net. That forced an overtime where both teams worked hard to maintain possession before Steenbergen was able to bust through for a late winner.

Aleksi Heponiemi had two assists on the night including on the winner. Steenbergen also had a two point game adding an assist to his winning goal. Tyler Adams had an assist for the second straight night.

The Broncos won the special teams battle going 1 for 4 on the power play and holding the Chiefs to 0 for 4.

Swift Current was still without captain Glenn Gawdin who Head Coach Manny Viveiros said was dealing with a "significant" injury and would be re-evaluated shortly.

The win moves the Broncos to 9-5-1-1 as they get set to host Edmonton on Wednesday and Calgary on Friday.
