Wendy Thienes and her team from the Shaunavon Curling Club started off the Viterra Scotties Provincial Women's Curling Championship with a tough loss in their opening match in Assiniboia.
Thienes dropped an 11-4 decision to Balgonie's Mandy Selzer in eight ends on Wednesday afternoon, and will face Saskatoon's Trish Paulsen today in the team's next round-robin game.
Meanwhile, defending champion Stefanie Lawton edged Jessica Hanson 5-4 and seven-time provincial champ Michelle Englot beat Lana Vey 7-4 in Wednesday's evening draw.
