What a 24-hour period for Swift Current Comprehensive High School soccer.

One day after the Comp Colts won their second-straight Moose Jaw High School Boys Soccer League title, the Comp Ardens joined the party, winning their 9th straight Girls League title.

The Ardens defeated the Weyburn Eagles 3-1 on Thursday with two goals from striker Jannae Carlson, and another from captain Lauryn Hayes, who says getting out to an early lead in the first half proved key for the team.

"We're usually slow off the bat, but we managed to get out ahead there. We were pretty fired up to play, and those early goals definitely helped us in the second half when we were getting tired," Hayes said. "Weyburn was playing us hard. They were getting to balls first, and working hard - they're a good team."

A big reason for their early success can be attributed to focusing on their strengths, and utilizing what they prepped for ahead of the match up with the Eagles.

"We're pretty good at maintaining possession, that's usually pretty key for our team - we're pretty good at passing the ball around and getting through," she said. "We worked on getting through with this defense especially - they're usually spaced out so that worked well for us."

Hayes also had an assist, as did Ali Vance and MJ Anderson, while Jaden McKenzie was the winning keeper for Swift Current.

The Ardens now have gone 94 consecutive league games without a loss, and are off to SHSAA 3A Girls Soccer Regionals in Prince Albert.

Swift's opening game is Saturday against Lloydminster's Holy Rosary, needing a win to advance to Provincials.
