The Diamond Energy Female Midget AAA Wildcats were oh-so-close to taking the first-place Saskatoon Stars to overtime for just the second time this season, but ended up on the wrong side of a 3-2 loss on Saturday.

The Wildcats opened scoring four-and-a-half minutes in, courtesy of Layne Hryhoriw, but the Stars tied up the game with just 21 seconds remaining in the period.

Into the second, the Stars went ahead on a goal just 16 seconds into the frame. Brooklyn Rublee brought the Wildcats back to a tie game with a goal 13 minutes later.

However, Saskatoon was able to sneak one by Wildcats netminder Amaya Giraudier in the third for the game-winner.

Giraudier stopped 25 shots in the game, while Taylor Lind, Ashlee Wolfe, and Kenedee Klevgaard all recorded single assists.

The narrow loss gives the Wildcats a 6-9-0-1 record. They're back in action on the road January 5-6 against the Battlefords Sharks.
