After a billion-dollar opening weekend at the box office, fans flocked to theatres to see the latest installment in the Avengers franchise, and Swift Current was no stranger to the phenomenon.

Swift Current's Cinema Twin was host to the movie, and saw back-to-back sold out shows for around 11 days in a row.

Hours prior to the movie beginning, fans could be seen waiting in a line stretching down the block, waiting to get in.

Kathy Pratt, the owner of Cinema Twin, said the movie lived up to the hype for many fans, as was evident from some enthusiastic moviegoers.

"Everybody loved Avengers. The first three nights we had several people that had seen it every night - they were back in line early again."

Pratt said they were actually able to start the shows early in some cases, due to the theatre already being filled a half hour before the show was scheduled to start.

Looking back on past blockbusters, she held it akin to the 1997 release of Titanic, which played at the Cinema Twin for 16 weeks.

That movie still holds a record at Swift Current's lone theatre for the longest viewing time.

Avengers: Endgame has to run a minimum of three weeks at the Cinema Twin, but if attendance doesn't waver for the movie, it will be kept in rotation for weeks to come.

One fan excited to see the movie was Cara Mappleback. She was second in line to get into a Sunday matinee of the show.

A feat in of itself, she also did it in the middle of a surprise spring snowstorm.

"I'm really excited," she exclaimed. "I just re-watched [Avengers] Infinity War last night when I couldn't get in to see this."

Pratt issued a friendly reminder to moviegoers to keep the ending of the film to themselves, as some may not have had an opportunity to see the show yet.
