Cypress Hills MLA Wayne Elhard

The spring session of the Saskatchewan legislature starts on Monday.

Cypress Hills MLA Wayne Elhard is excited about the session because of the province's recent successes: "We're dealing with a situation where the province is leading the nation in just about every category of economic growth and operation."

But despite that economic success, Premier Brad Wall hinted that cuts to some programs are not out of the question. "I think we need to focus our energy on providing programs that are sustainable in the long run," Elhard said. "Too many Provincial Governments have made promises that looked real good in the short term, but as they developed and experienced more growth, they end up costing more and more."

Elhard added there are some issues in his riding that need to be addressed: "We have some infrastructure needs here, we have some healthcare needs... and we are looking forward to seeing some important improvements made in those areas."

The Provincial Budget will highlight the spring session, and will be presented on March 21st.
