Shaunavon's Fire Chief says it was an exceptionally busy night for fires this past Tuesday July 17th in the Shaunavon area.

Merrick Goldstein says at about five thirty p.m. the first call came in to the Department about a grass fire in a grazing pasture located fourteen miles east and seven miles south of Shaunavon. The fire started by a lightening strike and very dry conditions, took some time to get under control and while crews were fighting that blaze another call came in of another lightening strike located ten miles south of the same location.

Goldstein says they called in assistance from the Frontier and Climax Fire Departments to fight that smaller fire.

No injuries were reported at either location, and no cattle were threatened.

No sooner were crews back to Shaunavon when around eleven p.m. they were called out again to a tree fire in the 600 block of Center Street. Apparently, a bonfire got out of control and caught the tree on fire. The fire was extinguished quickly and there were no injuries and no major damage done.
