Police have identified a 31 year old Winkler, Manitoba man as the victim of Thursday's fatal accident in Swift Current.
He was struck by a semi on Highway 1 at approximately 2am.
"The cause of the collision appears to be the pedestrian... crossing the highway when it was unsafe to do so," said RCMP Media Relations Sergeant Paul Dawson. "There is no criminal aspect or any violation. This just appears to be a very unfortunate situation where a young person lost his life."
Police are reminding people it is never safe to cross a highway outside of a designated crossing.
"It's not just in Swift Current it's through all areas of the province," Sergeant Dawson said. "Police are very attune to the fact because we are the first responders along with EMS to things like this. Sometimes very small decisions that you make on a day to day basis can have very severe and tragic consequences."
The victim's name is not being released.
