Jeremy Patzer is the new Member of Parliament for the Cypress Hills-Grassland riding.

Patzer replaces David Anderson, who held the position for 19 years before retiring earlier this year.

For Patzer and the Conservative Party, it took them just 27 polls before being named the official winner.

He said that he was looking forward to representing the region and its issues in the nation's capital.

"The biggest thing it really boils down to is the lack of respect for western Canada, you can look at a few different issues, whether it be the carbon tax, or the no-pipeline bill, bill C-69, just not respecting the economy out here in western Canada.

He said that agriculture and energy were topics that he said the riding would be counting on him to represent.

He said he enjoyed being able to witness residents be ready to tackle the polls with more vigour this year.

"Just how motivated people were to get out and vote this year, there were a lot of people that hadn't voted before, that [being] said, we're definitely voting, we're sick and tired of what's going on in Ottawa, so people were motivated to get out and vote this time around."

He said that he wanted to be able to ensure people could remain proud to be Canadain.
