It was a cold, dark day for thousands of southwest residents, after a SaskPower transmission line went out Monday morning.

A fault in the 72,000-kilovolt line that runs between Swift Current and Maple Creek caused outages in Gull Lake, Tompkins and Maple Creek just after 8:00am. Power was restored in Tompkins and Gull Lake by noon, while Maple Creek got their service back at around 4:00pm Monday afternoon.

Crown Utility Spokesman James Parker says the fault actually dates back to a storm near Maple Creek in the summer.

Parker says as many as 4,000 customers were affected by the outage, and adds SaskPower appreciates their patience as they worked to find the fault and restore power.
