SaskTel is warning its customers of a phishing scam.

Recently, SaskTel.net email has been the subject of a large phishing attack.

Director of External Communications for SaskTel Michelle Englot says despite the general public's ability to weed out scams, the recent attack appears more realistic then previous ones.

"In this instance it did appear to be fairly legitimate. There were not as many typos as there normally is within a phishing attack. We are now looking at proactively changing the passwords for customers who did receive the email," she said.

SaskTel is estimating the scam has effected roughly 1,000 customers.

Englot offered some tips to avoid falling victim to the scam.

"Never give out personal information, do not reply to suspicious messages, do not visit any sites that suspicious messages link to and also delete any of these emails immediately and do not follow up with the person that it came from. Those are the key things, but we also really encourage strong password usage," she added.

Englot also suggested to maintain a strong password she recommends changing the password regularly.

She encouraged everyone to keep in mind that SaskTel would never ask for personal or confidential information via email or text.

Other good practices when using email are:
·        NEVER give out any personal information
·        Do not reply to suspicious messages
·        Do not visit any websites suspicious messages link to
·        Delete any suspicious email immediately
