It's a first step towards reducing surgical wait times in Saskatchewan.

Saskatchewan residents waiting for day surgeries will now have the convenience of booking them outside of a hospital setting.

The Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region has started booking certain day surgeries at Omni Surgery Centre, which is a private facility in Regina.  Surgeries performed at the Centre will still be funded by the Provincial health care system.

MInister of Health Don McMorris says the new Centre will help to shorten wait times for some day surgeries, while offering a more convenient setting for patients.

The government's goal is to lessen surgical wait times in Saskatchewan to no more than three months by 2014.
