The Salvation Army has recently had a new addition to the kitchen.

A new addition and a speedy installation that began in June has resulted in a brand new dishwasher for the Salvation Army and cost roughly $15,000 for the dishwasher unit and other items including tables, dishes, and installation.

The Salvation Army had their first meal with real dishes August 27 after the dishwater had been completely installed.

Major Don Grad with the Salvation Army explained what this new installment means.

"The big thing it means is that we are no longer using throw-away paper plates, plastic cutlery, things like that, which is a saving plus because we don't need to buy that but also it means it's not going into the garbage and the landfill. Another big thing for us is that there's a certain dignity and respect in being able to serve our meals on a real plate."

As of now the Salvation Army is hoping to serve meals using the new dishes every Monday.
