The SARCAN Recycling Depot in Swift Current

The town of Kyle will be getting their own SARCAN Recycling depot this fall at the former Pioneer Co-op Farm Centre building on Railway Avenue West.

"The depot in Kyle will be opening in late September to early October, our planned date of opening is October 1st" said Kevin Acton, Director of Operations for SARCAN Recycling. "It will be a full-service SARCAN Recycling depot, which will mean that it will be able to take all of the beverage containers, and in addition to that, it will be able to take the used electronics and used paint, as well as the dairy containers that are part of our program."

Acton says the new depot will be a benefit to the residents of Kyle, which already has a self-serve recycle depot in a partnership between the town and the Rural Municipality of Lacadena, and it will also be beneficial to those living in or visiting Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park and Clearwater Lake Regional Park in the summertime.

"This is going to complement the existing program in Kyle, as well as provide service to the summer residents in both of those parks," he added. "We believe that it will be a real good fit in that portion of the province."

As SARCAN looks to set up shop in Kyle, Acton says they are reviewing their operations in Beechy, located just a half-hour east.

"The intent at this point is to close their depot at the end of September," he said. "A lot of that will depend on the number of containers and the containers shipped that will happen from Beechy over to Kyle. We are still looking at options to see if there is a way that we can still provide some form of service for Beechy."

Acton says SARCAN Recycling will be operating the depot in Kyle, and will be looking at staffing levels and days of operation in the next month.
