SaskEnergy will be starting their Enhanced Safety and Pipeline Integrity Program in some areas of the province, including parts of the southwest.

Dave Burdeniuk, Director of Media Relations for the Crown Corporation, says they will be upgrading work on service connections that run from homes to main pipelines in areas where there are heavier, clay-like soils that tend to hold on to moisture, and ground-shifting is more likely to occur.

"We're focusing on a couple of different areas," Burdeniuk said. "South Regina is obviously one of them, but there are a few communities in Western Saskatchewan that while they don't have the exact same soil, they have a heavier soil that does retain moisture more. For this year, we will be focusing on the communities of Leader and Prelate."

Burdeniuk adds they are looking to start the project in late-April or early-May to coincide with the traditional start of construction season, but says they are hoping to start the project sooner.

The same work was conducted in the communities of Cabri and Kyle over last summer.

Shawn Mullin talked with Dave Burdeniuk about the program:
