The 21st edition of the Spirit of Swift Current Business Excellence Awards (SCBEX) happened Friday night at the Living Sky Casino's Events Centre.

The SCBEX awards shine a light on the innovative things that the business community and honours business and not-for-profit organizations in Swift Current for their contributions to the City.

A total of nine awards were handed out on the night, and there was one hall of fame inductee.

Karla Wiens, the CEO of the Swift Current and District Chamber of Commerce, said that she thought the night went great.

"SCBEX is always such a fun evening for everyone involved," she said. "It's an evening of celebration, of great emotion, and people are very thankful to be nominated, and then when they win and are recognized in such a way, there was lots of emotion, lots of history with our business people that is very heartwarming to celebrate with them."

Wiens said that awards are important because it allows business who have and are doing great things, being recognized.

"I don't think people thank each other enough for the good things that are going on," she said. "Business people don't do what they do to win an award; they do what they do for various reasons. An event such as this brings a lot of like-minded people together in one room. Our community is a great collaborator, and an evening like this provides a venue for them to celebrate, which I don't think they get to do as often as they should."

Wiens added the awards night is always a fun time, and this year was no different.
