The initiation of a voluntary Life Safety Fire Awareness Program has been approved by Shaunavon Town Council and the Shaunavon and District Fire and Rescue, and is currently in effect.

This program, which includes a checklist for property owners to go through, is for commercial and industrial assessed property owners within the Town of Shaunavon to utilize at their own discretion.

Shaunavon Fire Chief, Merrick Goldstein explained saying, "We're mandated by the Prevention and Fire Safety Act to have a program such as this in place. If you go through this checklist and you fix any infractions that you have on this checklist, you'll be able to pass any fire inspection that comes down the line basically."

Goldstein added, "A lot of this stuff on the list maybe people didn't know, that you're supposed to be maintaining your emergency lighting and what not or getting your fire extinguishers inspected annually."

The Town of Shaunavon says this voluntary program is beneficial, as it assists commercial and industrial owners by providing preventative measures to reduce the risk of a fire emergency.

Anyone who completes the checklist by the end of March can enter for a chance to win an ABC Extinguisher or a Carbon Monoxide Detector.

The Life Safety Fire Awareness Program Inspection Checklist is available on the town of Shaunavon website at www.shaunavon.com

Checklists can be returned to the Shaunavon Town Office in person or emailed to shaunavon4@sasktel.net
