Three major projects are in the works for Shaunavon as Town Council passed the Budget. $300 to $350,000 dollars has been budgetted for repairs to the lift station, Bench View lots will be serviced and water and sewer service is being installed for the new CanAlta Hotel and Strip Mall.
Shaunavon Town Administrator, Charmaine Bernath said taxes will be increasing as well, “They are going up a bit, the mill rate is staying the same. The minimum municipal land tax is increasing and it's increasing by fifty dollars, so on residential properties that was at 500 it will now be 550, commercial properties that was $850 is now $900.”
Bernath adds that there will also be an increase on water and sewer rates effective July first, “We have an application going in to the municipal board for a rate increase. We're looking at a three percent increase so thats going to be a dollar ten per month.”
Also in the budget are street lights for the Crescent Point Wickenheiser Centre and $60,000 for street patching.
