Market Square was hampered with rain and strong winds, but that didn't stop the farmer's market from giving recognition to one non-profit in their last outing.

It was SPCA Day yesterday at Market Square as volunteers came downtown to raise funds at the weekly event.

Money was being raised for the SPCA at the event through donations, contests, book sales, and 50/50 draw.

Due to rainy conditions, the SPCA's booth resided in the Legion as well as Market Square, as books up for sale had to be kept dry.

Maureen Shelstad, manager of the SPCA bookstore, said that they were pleased to be the featured business.

"The SPCA has been treated so well by the City in getting the recognition that they are getting," she said, inside the Swift Current Legion. "Unfortunately, today it's raining and the pets are in the rain, but it's really great that the City does so much through Market Square."

She added that, in addition to being able to raise funds through the event, it was also great to raise awareness for the fact that they need volunteers.

The SPCA was participating in the Legion's Market Mall event by being in the Legion on Saturday.

The Market Mall trade show was raising money for the Legion through booth rentals, but they allowed the SPCA booth free of charge.

She said that being able to support the Legion was another positive of participating in the Market Mall, aside from staying dry.
