The Green Party's candidate in Wood River wants to make sure the whole province is benefiting from Saskatchewan's improved economy.

But Amelia Swiderski says that doesn't mean they are a mirror image of the NDP. She says her party is a little more grassroots, which she notes that is where the New Democrats were based on, but they have been losing their way a little bit. She says the NDP are coming around but the Green Party is taking it one step further into keeping our environment clean.

Swiderski is also concerned about the impact on oil operations in Saskatchewan over the long term. She says they have to look at the future of the people of Saskatchewan, which may be prosperous over the next 30 years, but they also have to consider what that is doing to our land.

Swiderski is a so-called "parachute candidate" from North Battleford, but she isn't ashamed by that label, saying she believes that everybody in Saskatchewan should be able to have the chance to have their message heard, and having Green Party candidates in all 58 ridings shows that they are out there and want everybody to come together.

If successful, both Amelia and her husband Owen could end up in the legistlature, as he is running for the Greens in The Battlefords.

The ballot for the Wood River riding, which runs along the US border in southern Saskatchewan between Shaunavon and Willow Bunch, also includes incumbent Yogi Huyghebaert of the Saskatchewan Party and NDP challenger Randy Gaudry.
