The City of Swift Current is gearing up for slick roads, and one way they are doing so is sanding city roads.

They recently outlined this year's plans for the wintertime road maintenance.

Two full time sanding trucks operate in Swift Current, where they distribute sand on areas where conditions are less than ideal.

The areas held in highest priority for the tucks include the hospital, downtown Swift Current, overpasses, followed by other high populations roads.

The time of the sanding is determined by the weather, which is periodically monitored by the City.

Areas with many hills will also have their back lanes sanded a day before garbage collection occurs.

Last year, the City of Swift Current went through 1,500 yards cubed of sand, but depending on the year, they can use up to double of that.
