The Town of Shaunavon has increased utility rates, effective October 1, 2017 for both residential and commercial customers.

Commercial water and sewer rates have increased to $44.20 per month plus an $8.00 environmental fee.

Tara Fritz is the Chief Administrator Officer for the Town of Shaunavon. She says, "We did a review of cost and revenues for our commercial garbage rates. And we determined that the commercial rates hadn't been increased since, pretty much, the inception of the Regional Landfill. We recognize that there's additional costs and fees that the Town of Shaunavon has incurred over and above running our own landfill, therefore we've had to pass that on to the ratepayers."

Fritz adds that the Town is re-visiting the by-law as they have recognized that these changes would make a significant impact to non-profit organizations.

Residential utility rates have had a 3% yearly cost of living increase effective October 1, 2017, which means residential customers are seeing an increase on their bills from $162.40 to $166.30 quarterly.
