The Town of Shaunavon begins their water main cleaning today.

This includes swabbing, flushing and disinfecting the lines. The work is being done to improve the system water quality, reduce disinfection chemical use, lessen distribution pumping costs, and increase the overall reliability of the water distribution system.

The Town has been divided into sections for swabbing and cleaning. Not all areas of Shaunavon will be done at the same time.

The process will result in discolored water, interruption of water service and partial or complete loss of water pressure.

Swabbing will be done between the hours of approximately 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. No area should be without water for more than approximately three hours at a time.

Residents are asked to limit your water use during the time that your area is being done. Fill containers with water for drinking and cooking prior to the cleaning, do not do laundry when cleaning is being done and use a large ice cream pail to pour water down your toilet so that it will flush after use.

When your water is restored, run a cold water tap in the sink or bath tub for 5-10 minutes to clear the water in the service lines. If the water does not clear after running the tap for 30 minutes, contact the Town of Shaunavon.

The first area being done today is the downtown business district.
