Swift Current's centennial events wrapped up with Light up the Future in late-November, which warmed up spirits on a bitterly cold night.

Hundreds of people braved the cold and came downtown to take in live entertainment at both Market Square and the Lyric Theatre, and to watch the new Light Parade sponsored by the Lions Club.

Centennial Committee Co-Chair Dave Spencer says they couldn't be happier with the response for Light up the Future and the two other centennial events this year, and for him, it was an honour to be involved in celebrating Swift Current's 100th anniversary.

"I got to work on this committee with lots of people that I've known with for years," Spencer said. "My wife and I chose to come to Swift Current, because we'd heard this was a great community. We came here in 1976, it was going to be our home, and it was going to be where we raised our kids, and there has been nothing about this community that has disappointed or let us down, and we're just so honoured to be a part of this once in a lifetime event."

The night also included the traditional lighting of the city's downtown Christmas tree, which was specially decorated for Swift Current's centennial.
