Harvest is expected to get underway as soon as this week in parts of Saskatchewan.

Daphne Cruise, Provincial Cropping Management Specialist for the Ministry of Agriculture, says crops are generally good condition at this point, but recent rains have caused some issues in some crops.

She there has been an increase in lentil acreage, but they are mostly being grown in the wettest parts of the province.

"You know we see lentils in the south half of the province and more towards the west central, you know believe it or not actually Kyle and Webb are leading our accumulative rainfall for the whole province when it comes to crop report data anyway. They are sitting at 433 millimeters, a very different story then we are use to when it comes to talking about rainfall in the west side of the province that typically is dry."

Cruise, says producers are starting to get ready for harvest and are just looking for this stretch of warm, dry weather to continue.

"Most producers in the entire province are going to be wanting that as we get into harvest season here into August and September. Getting the crop off in good shape is one thing but then dealing with wet fields and trying to grow the combines and trucks and grain carts through is another thing to deal with. The taps can turn off here at any time I think for the majority of the province."

Cruise adds a continued stretch of dry weather is needed as farmers get set to start harvest.
