A quartet of local non-profit organizations will receive a good chunk of coin from a recent Pioneer Co-op initiative.

Last week the locally-owned co-operative business held their annual Fuel Good Day throughout southwestern Saskatchewan and raised just under $10,000.

Pioneer Co-op CEO Larry Kozun said they're always happy to give back to the local communities.

"This was the fourth year that Pioneer Co-op has had this day," he said. "What we do is at all of our locations within the southwest Saskatchewan is we sell petroleum litres and we give away 10 cents per litre."

The board of directors for the Pioneer Co-op selected the Kyle food bank, the Shaunavon food bank, the Southwest District 4-H Club, and the Prairie Skies District Girl Guides as this year's recipients for the funds raised.

"It will be split into three so they will be getting about $3,300," Kozun said. "Except for the Shaunavon and Kyle, we'll split that in half."

According to a press release from the Pioneer Co-op, they raised $9,250 last year that was divided between Southwest Crisis Services and the Salvation Army.

"We're very pleased with what's going on in the world today, that we were able to raise the same amount of funds," he said.
