Swift Current Indians centre fielder Max Gordon, starting pitcher Dan Rogers, and reliever Cory Buckley are the WMBL club’s three stars for the week ending July 16.

FIRST STAR – Max Gordon (Oregon State/Ashland, Ore.)

With runs in short supply lately, Gordon led the Tribe with a .391 batting average in five games over the past week. The total included three RBI, two doubles, and a stolen base as the Central Division-leading Indians went 2-3. For the season Gordon is third on the team with 12 RBI and fourth with a .284 batting average.

SECOND STAR – Dan Rogers (Texas A&M Kingsville/Redwood City, Calif.)

For the second week in a row Rogers is named the Indians’ second star, after another quality start in a clutch game. The California righty threw the first seven innings July 11 against the East Division-leading Regina Red Sox, allowing one run and striking out eight in a 2-1 12-inning Indians win. Rogers in 2-2 in six appearances this year with a 2.58 ERA.

THIRD STAR – Cory Buckley (Nebraska-Omaha/Bellevue, Neb.)

Buckley has rebounded from a rough start to become one of the Tribe’s most dependable relievers. In three appearances last week he allowed no runs on three hits and two walks, while striking out five opposing batters. He’s now gone six straight appearances without allowing an earned run.
