A poll commissioned by one of the province's health care unions is showing that Saskatchewan residents want public solutions to long waiting lists.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees says 60.4% of the survey's respondents say the provincial government should reduce surgical wait times by investing in the public hospital system, while just around 24% support the contracting of private clinics.

The poll also found most respondents were critical of the province's decision to postpone funding for a day surgery clinic in Regina, that was originally announced by the Lorne Calvert Government in 2007 and was planned to open in 2010.

Premier Brad Wall has said the government may make investments toward adding surgeries at regional hospitals to help reduce wait times.
