The cooler spring weather is hampering the City's ability to begin its annual street sweeping program.

Normally the spring cleaning initiative starts in late April or May but it's currently being held back due to the cold temperatures and potential for snowfall.

"The sweepers have water, so if it's below zero we cause more harm than good," Swift Current's general manager of infrastructure Greg Parsons said.

The City owns three street sweeping units, two of which have been replaced since 2020, with all of them waiting for Mother Nature to shift gears and offer more spring-like conditions.

"We spend the winter going through them and getting them ready," he said. "When the timing is right and the weather is nice, we're ready to go."
