It came down to the last game of the Provincial 8-ball Playoffs on Saturday in Swift Current to decide which team would represent the province at nationals next month.

Swift Current's team of Dick Lee, Bill Lee, Wayne Westbury, and Ward Schultz narrowly defeated one of the teams from Estevan to book their ticket to the Dominion Championship on May 24-27 in Hartland, N.B.

Dick Lee, the tournament director and one of the 24 tournament participants, said heading into the final game of the tournament his team had a 45-44 scoring advantage over Estevan, although they could only watch the table as their games were completed.

"The one team from Estevan was playing the other team from Estevan," he said. "They helped us out. We were jumping up and down giving them the thumbs up. We were pretty happy with that."

Westbury and Dick will be moving on to nationals now but will be adding two new teammates as Bill and Schultz are unable to attend. The pair will be joined by Dennis Klyne and Tom Zanidean.

Six teams attended the event at the Swift Current Legion Branch 56 on Friday and Saturday: three from Estevan, two from Swift Current, and one from Rosetown.

"The tournament went really well," he said. "Happy the way we structured it playing some games Friday night because we just got done a timely fashion on Saturday. We were well represented by all the Legions that were here. They're all good-spirited people."
