There's no better time to explore home than Tourism Awareness Week.

This year, it has been officially proclaimed in Swift Current from April 15 to 19. Today being the start, the next four days will focus on the impact tourism has on local economies, including here in Swift Current.

Rebecca Anderson, CEO of Tourism Swift Current, has plans for this week that will elevate the sights and sounds of the City.

"We join our fellow residents across the province in commemorating this vibrant event, which coincides with Tourism Week in Canada," said Anderson.

Tourism Week will focus on encouraging people to take in the many experiences to be found in Swift Current. Whether that's the public spaces like the Chinook Parkway, Kinetic Park, the Art Gallery of Swift Current, or the Ted Knight Saskatchewan Hockley Hall of Fame.

Anderson referenced events like Windscape, which pulled in 5,519 visitors last year, and Frontier Days, which was just shy of 25,000 attendees.

"Whether it's embarking on a road trip through our picturesque province, sampling diverse culinary delights, or immersing oneself in unique cultural experiences, let us embrace the spirit of exploration and discovery that sets Saskatchewan apart from other destinations."

Touching on how the Swift Current Broncos averaged 2,170 fans per game at home in 2023, she marked how they are a massive local draw for tourism. Right now, the Broncos are in the middle of the second round of playoffs, tied up with the Moose Jaw Warriors at a game a piece in the series.

The Broncos are looking to play again this Tuesday at home. The InnovationPlex is set to welcome a sold-out crowd. Not only will this generate massive amounts of economic impact at the rink, but also in local watering holes, restaurants, and other venues airing the game. From a tourism standpoint, few things are better for Swift Current than a red-hot playoff run for the Broncos.

Other big pulls for the local tourism scene are the two golf courses, Chinook and Elmwood. These venues off people from across the prairies and oases to rest from the dry details of life. They invite people to spend a day playing, relaxing and recharging in Swift Current's green river spaces designed for driving fun into the green, one swing at a time.

The Living Sky Casino is a huge venue for tourism. Not only does it itself host a large venue for games, and a wonderful restaurant, but it also acts as a venue for the Arts Council and other organizations. The Swift Current landscape would not be the same without the many concerts, galas, and other evening escapades held at the Living Sky Casino Events Centre.

It's no wonder then, that with all these attractions, Anderson is proud to announce that on April 18, they will be opening a new head office for Tourism Swift Current.

"As we celebrate the grand opening of Tourism Swift Current's new office, symbolizing our commitment to promoting tourism and fostering collaborative efforts to bolster our visitor economy together, let us seize these opportunities to rally behind our local businesses and propel Swift Current to new heights of tourism," finished Anderson.
