Denis Perrault has shifted from City Councillor, to the center seat at Council Chambers.

Last night, Perrault was elected Mayor of Swift Current.

The new Mayor, who was at the Lyric Theatre during the election, shared his thoughts on the decision.

"Well I'm excited - I think that's the best word to use - and honestly very relieved. We've got six great Councillors moving forward alongside with me, and now we can work together to grow Swift Current. That is exactly what we're going to do," he said.

Perrault won the election with 4058 total votes, which was good for 87% of the total vote.

With the significant voter turnout, Perrault took the time to thank residents of Swift Current for their participation.

"The residents of Swift Current came to the polls in very good numbers - better than 2012 I believe. We saw a great voter turnout which means the world to me because having that vote is something that people worked hard and fought for. I'm thankful people came out to the polls," he said.

The City Council election saw two new faces elected, who now join four returning members.

Ryan Plewis, Pat Friesen, Ron Toles and George Bowditch find themselves in a familiar position, with Bruce Deg and Chris Martens being the new additions to the team.

Mayor Perrault and the new council will be sworn in on their first council meeting on November 7th.
