The 15U Girls SunDogs are provincial champions.
The Swift Current volleyball team turned around a slow start in Saskatoon at the 2017 Conexus Provincial Championship, picking up three straight playoff victories, en route to their gold medal.
The SunDogs opened the tournament on Saturday with a win.
They defeated HVC Green in two sets (25-21, 25-18).
However, after that match, they found themselves in a rut.
The SunDogs wrapped up round robin play with back-to-back losses.
Swift Current fell 14-25, 22-25 to the Prince Albert Toppers En Fuego and then were defeated 20-25, 19-25 by the Oxbow Black Knights.
The two losses meant the SunDogs would have to take on the Battleford Volleyball Club in the 1 vs 4 quarter-final.
Despite being the lower seed, Swift Current found a way to get past Battleford winning in straight sets 25-19, 25-23.
In the semi's the SunDogs would take on the Regina Cougars Volleyball Club and once again pick up another straight sets victory.
After beating Regina 25-15 in the first set, the defeated the Cougars 25-20 in the second set.
Their victory over Regina set up a date with the Weyburn Rush in the gold medal match.
Swift Current was able to gain the early advantage in the final, taking the first set 25-19.
However, Weyburn would not go away quietly.
The Rush took control of the second set early on and rolled to a 25-8 win to force a winner take all third set.
The SunDogs would then realize their gold medal dreams, taking the third set 15-12.
The 15U Girls victory is now the second provincial medal in as many weeks for the SunDogs.
Last weekend the 14U Boys SunDogs earned a silver medal at provincials.
