The Saskatchewan Landing Triathalon brought out the ambitious, and also acted as the trial race for the upcoming Western Canada Summer Games.

Around 80 participants took place in the race which featured swimming, running, and biking.

Stephanie Prpick-Boss, owner of the Swift Current Multi-Sports Club, and race director for the event, said that they have been trying to build the triathlon community in Swift Current since they arrived in 2010.

"We were really active with triathlon in the Northwest Territories and when we came to Swift Current the numbers seemed lower so our goal is to build up the sport of triathlon and it's three components of swim, bike, run."

Prpick-Boss also said that the triathlon was a test for the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games triathlon event.

"We are also the triathlon chairs for the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games, so this triathlon was also acting as the test event to the games being hosted here next August."

The 2019 Western Canada Summer Games are scheduled to start in Swift Current on August 9th of next year, and last until August 18th.

At the start of race day, there was enough rainfall to force the triathlon to re-route its bike course, but most of the routes will be looking similar to the ones held yesterday.

Prpick-Boss Enterprises, creators and lead sponsors of the event, also hosted races specialized to draw people to the sport like Try-a-Tri, and the Kids of Steel events.

The Try a Tri program is designed for beginners to the triathlon sport, and Kids of Steel is a miniature triathlon focused on getting kids as young as two involved in the sport.
