A Filipino feast took place this past weekend as part of a dinner fundrasier to help a local girl suffering from DiGeorge Syndrome.

2-year-old Amari Gayatenia was diagnosed with the immune-compromised condition and the local community came together to help raise funds to help cover her medical costs. Amari's condition requires frequent Tertiary Care Centre treatment resulting in many hospital visits both in and out of the province.

Icasiana de Gala one of the event organizers details the success of "A Night For Amari"

"We printed 300 tickets and we sold out of all of those tickets. Tickets were $50 with dinner and entertainment and a raffle. We are very happy with the turnout, we are very grateful to the Filipino community and everyone else that supported us not just with the tickets but those who gave donations. "

Ten Filipino cooks from the community came together to create a high-quality feast that evening enjoyed by all.

De Gala details how the community can continue to support Amari.

"The bank account that we opened there's an Amari Gayatenia Trust Fund which is open for six months. We opened it in September so anyone that still wants to donate can deposit directly there or e-transfer and we are still getting orders for shirts."

The "Courageous Amari" shirts and sweaters have been custom designed by Amari's six-year-old sister Aryann and are still being sold as part of the fundraising efforts. Anyone interested in ordering one can find details on the I Am Amari Facebook page.
