The Swift Current RCMP are warning residents to properly secure their property and belongings after seeing an increase in the number of theft complaints in the city.

Sheds, garages and yards are being targetted with more frequency. In a number of those instances, the theft occurred as a result of the property in question being left unlocked or improperly secured.

The RCMP is requesting that homeowners be vigilant in securely locking their garages and sheds and ensure that they do not leave valuables in their yards. They recommend as well that homeowners record the serial numbers or place identifiable markings on any items stored in outbuildings on their property.

Additionally, they suggest locking vehicles when parked in the garage and never leave keys, wallets or other valuables in a vehicle.

If anyone has information on any of these types of theft, please contact the Swift Current RCMP at 306-778-4870 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
