Cypress Hills-Grasslands MP David Anderson

From a majority government to the passing of Bill C-18, it's been a busy year for our member of parliament.

Cypress Hills-Grasslands MP David Anderson is reflecting on 2011 and looking toward the year ahead.

He's expecting the economy to be one of the bigger stories in the coming months: "Canada's been protected in some ways, we cut taxes as soon as we came in in 2006 and '07, we've been able to protect our economy that way. We'll have to wait and see what happens internationally, certainly, we're not isolated so we'll be dragged in or rewarded depending on how other economies do."

With one highlight of the past year being the passing into law of Bill C-18, which gave western farmers the freedom to market their own grain, Anderson is looking to see legislation to scrap the long-gun registry passed as soon as possible. "We want to get that passed early in the year, the opposition was complaining we were pushing legislation through too quickly this fall, but the reality was we couldn't get everything done this fall."

MPs return to the House of Commons on January 30th, 2012.
