Getting a chance to measure up to the league's best, the Diamond Energy Female Midget 'AAA' Wildcats appear to still have some work to do.

With the league-leading Prince Albert Nothern Bears in town, the Wildcats fell 5-0 and 7-2.

"We weren't prepared to work hard like they were and that really was the difference," said Wildcats' Head Coach Terry Pavely.

"They are a better hockey team than us right now, but they also worked a lot harder than we did this weekend so the end result was two games that we really weren't in."

On Saturday, the Bears jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead, before firing home a pair of power-play goals in the second to put the game out of reach, en route to their 5-0 win.

In the end, the Bears power-play wound up scoring three times on four opportunities in Saturday's contest.

"It wasn't that they were doing anything special, they were just willing to work hard and we weren't," Pavely said of the Bears power-play.

"We didn't get in the lane to block shots, twice we kind of got out of the way. Again, they didn't do anything special, they just got pucks to the net with some traffic and scored.

With our power-play, we looked really good but didn't accomplish anything. We went 0-4 and only get two pucks on net in eight minutes of power-play time.

So yeah, we looked good moving the puck around but you also have to find a way to get pucks on net."

Following the loss, the Wildcats were looking to bounce back on Sunday, however, in a game of momentum swings, momentum often favoured the visitors.

Once again the Bears got out in front with a first period goal, taking a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Early in the second, Prince Albert increased the lead to 2-0, before Swift Current tried to get momentum on their side.

With 6:13 remaining in the middle frame, Wildcats' Captain Chloe Smith scored her 7th goal of the season bringing Swift Current back to within one, however, the Bears quickly swung things back in their own favour, answering Smith's goal 1:14 later.

If that was not enough of a blow to Swift Current, Prince Albert continued to pressure the Wildcats and managed to extend the lead to 4-1 with only 37 seconds remaining in the middle frame.

"There is a huge difference going into the third period 2-1, we are probably going to hang around in that game but at 4-1 it is probably out of reach," Pavely said.

"You never say never, but against a good team, having to score at least three goals would have been tough."

Tough it was.

The Bears came flying out of the gates in the third period, making sure the Wildcats could not even begin to think about a potential comeback.

Prince Albert found the back of the net three times in the final period while outshooting Swift Current 23-5.

In between the Bears' three third period goals, Janessa Fournier managed to score her 5th goal of the season, however, it was too little too late.

For the Wildcats, their focus will now shift to the Battlefords Sharks, as the team begins an important stretch in Pavely's mind.

"These next eight games are really important for us, they are all against teams kind of in the lower part of the standings," he said.

"So if we want to separate ourselves from those teams it is going to come down to us improving our work ethic, which will start in practice and then being prepared to play good hockey."

Swift Current will resume their league schedule over the Weekend with a pair of game in the Battlefords, after that, they will play Notre Dame three times, Melville twice and Weyburn once.

The Wildcats currently sit 6th in league standings but are just one point back of Notre Dame and Regina who are tied for 4th.

Also of note, Wildcats forward Taylor Lind registered an assist in Sunday's loss as she continued to lead the league in points with 17.
