Folks in the southwest can now book in for their Pfizer bivalent COVID-19 boosters.

As of yesterday, those 12 years and older have the go-ahead for the vaccine, recommended to be received at least four months after their previous dose.

According to a provincial release, Health Canada has approved the vaccine as a booster dose regardless of how many COVID-19 vaccinations have been received.

Those infected by the virus can book in their appointments for when they've recovered, with the most effective immunity response being three months post-infection.

"Evidence to date shows that both the Moderna and Pfizer bivalent booster doses induce a stronger immune response and are expected to provide improved protection against the Omicron variant," stated the release. "Getting up-to-date with either of these bivalent booster doses affords you the best protection against severe COVID-19 outcomes this fall."

Residents can call their local pharmacies or health care providers to check for availability and appointments in the area.
