A Swift Current city councillor believes public and private partnerships are a way towards developing more affordable, entry level homes. George Bowditch reached out to D3 Developers in Swift Current and asked them to consider building that type of housing.

"I just happened to mention it would be really nice, and I just said what would it take to get into some affordable housing," said Bowditch. "Then Murali said well I got to talk about it a bit and we will see what happens and a short little while later they contacted me and said they had this plan."

D3 worked with the provincial Head Start on a Home program to get financing for the project and Innovation Credit Union offered finance down payments. The four buildings of eight apartment-style condos on Gladstone will be priced so that young families can own, or older residents could downgrade affordably.

The city offering a five-year assessment exemption as an incentive to buyers. Bowditch also added public and private partnerships could be a way for them to continue developing similar ventures in the future.
