Three bridges have been replaced or are under construction in the Southwest. For safety reasons these bridges need to be replaced.

"On highway 18 east of Val Marie we had one bridge we replaced there. We're doing another one East of Mankota on highway 18. Also on highway 4 North of Val Marie so lots of bridge replacements going on and it's important to ensure the safety of motorists," said Kirsten Leatherdale with Highways and Infrastructure.

"The structure of the bridge is that much more sound and solid. When you have a lot of bridges that are older and aging, we are basically going through the entire system we have an inspection system where we  determine which bridges need to be done next."

The bridge near Val Marie was completed August 7th, and the one near Mankota will be done in early September.

The province has targeted 38.5 million dollars for bridge and culvert replacements, and approximately 30 major projects will be completed this year.

They also ask that motorists to slow to 60 in construction zones.
