The WHL Conference Semifinals start tonight with the Swift Current Broncos facing the Moose Jaw Warriors for game one of the best-of-seven series set for the Friendly City.

The two teams split their six-game season series with three wins each, and both are coming off first-round sweeps of the Lethbridge Hurricanes and Brandon Wheat Kings, respectively. Swift Current won the Central Division and the second seed in the first round with 86 points, but the Warriors, who earned 96 points in the regular season, have home ice advantage in the series after playoff re-seeding.

This will be the first playoff matchup between the two teams since 2018, a series the Broncos won in seven games en route to capturing the Ed Chynoweth Cup. Three of those games went to overtime.

"I think everyone was kind of waiting for this series... everyone's looking forward to what could be as many as seven games of some of the best hockey in a while," said Mat Barrett, the Broncos' Broadcast and Community Relations Manager. "When you look back to 2018 and how that series went, it will be a wild one."

Another storyline in this series will be a reunion of sorts for Broncos forward Conor Geekie and Warriors forward Matthew Savoie, who were teammates for their entire WHL careers with the Winnipeg ICE and Wenatchee Wild before being traded to Swift Current and Moose Jaw in dueling blockbuster deals at the WHL trade deadline in January.

"It's a storyline they're not too concerned about, they're just ready to go out, play some hockey and help their team win," Barrett added. "But everyone is looking at that and it's pretty neat to see them meet now and lead their teams into battle."

Sold-out crowds are expected in both cities for at least the first four games of the series and Barrett says the Broncos will have a large contingent of fans joining them on the road.

"It's going to be awesome to see all the blue and green in the stands," he said.

Games one and two will be at the Moose Jaw Events Centre tonight and Saturday with games three and four at Innovationplex on Tuesday and Wednesday. If needed, game five will be in Moose Jaw on April 19 with game six in Swift Current on April 21, and game seven back in Moose Jaw on April 23. All games start at 7:00 p.m.

Barrett will have the play-by-play of all the playoff action with Redhead Equipment Case IH Broncos Hockey starting 15 minutes before each face-off on Country 94.1 FM.
