The Swift Current Broncos have been pushed to the brink of elimination after a 5-2 loss to Moose Jaw in Game 4 of their second-round series on Wednesday night in Swift Current.

Conor Geekie got the Broncos on the board for his first goal of the series 8:17 into the first period, but it was responded by Ethan Hughes of the Warriors to make it 1-1 after one period.

Caleb Wyrostok gave the Broncos a 2-1 lead a couple minute into the second, but that was all the scoring the Broncos could get as Jagger Firkus tied the game just over 12 minutes into the second period.

In the third, Brayden Yager and Rilen Kovacevic pulled the Warriors ahead 4-2 before Firkus scored into the empty net.

“I thought our guys battled and competed,” said Broncos Assistant Coach Taras McEwen. “And sometimes it’s just one bounce that doesn’t goes your way.”

The Broncos outshot the Warriors 38-35 with Reid Dyck stopping 30 shots in the game.

The Broncos were without a powerplay in the game but were also 1-for-1 on the penalty kill.

McEwen added that his team is just fighting for another day together.

“There’s still lots of hockey to play,” he said. “So, we just got to go there, and you do your job.”

Game five of the series, with the Broncos season on the line will go on Friday in Moose Jaw.
