Swift Current Ag & Ex board member and local Author Bryce Burnett received an award for his Cowboy Poetry Book "Homegrown and Other Poems."

Burnett's book, published by Driver Works Ink out of Regina, won in the poetry Category at the 2014 Great Midwest Book Festival in Chicago.

"To get an award for cowboy poetry out of this I think it quite an achievement because most of the poetry books now are more tradition type of poetry and a lot of them will shy away from the cowboy poetry which has got more of a rhythm and rhyme to it," said Burnett.

Burnett found out about the award about a week ago from his publisher and was honoured when the Swift Current Ag & Ex send out a news Release this week about the award.

"When they found out about it at the Ag & Ex office there, they thought it was worthy of a news event, it is great when others will recognize it that is for sure."

Burnett continues to farm and manage cattle out at the family homestead that was established in 1907.  He continues to share his Cowboy poetry when he can.

His book is available through book stores, at the Ag & Ex office at Kinetic Exhibition Park, or online at driverworks.ca.
