This year's provincial education budget listed increases to address growing enrollment and additional Pre-Kindergarten spaces, but the Chinook School Division will not benefit from that additional funding.

"We were not slated to get a new pre-K, and our enrollment is stable, but it's not growing," said Liam Choo-Foo, Director of Education for the School Division. "Really, we'll have to see how the formula for distribution of funds has effected our bottom line, and it'll take us a few days to get through all of the pieces of that."

The budget included an overall 6.7% increase in funding to school divisions.

There was one piece of news, though, as the government announced that funding had been approved for a capital project at Leader School.

"We've had significant structural issues with the roof, and so we're hoping to get right down to the base and rebuild the roof on the school," Choo-Foo added.

He says they have the detailed design for the roof rebuild project and hope to begin work soon.
