flood apr22

The City of Swift Current and the Water Security Agency are staying ahead of the game this year as they prepare for a potential flood in the upcoming weeks.

The WSA and the City have been meeting and will continue to meet regularly to acquire information and develop action plans should the spring runoff result in flooding in areas throughout the city.

Some things people can do for their homes is utilize the sand pile and sand bags provided at the City Service Centre located at 2074 South Service Road West between the hours of 8am and 4:30pm Monday to Friday.

They should also shovel snow away from their homes to prevent basement flooding, check the down spouts from eaves troughs to ensure water is running away from the foundation, and making sure sump pumps are in good working order.

If you require more information on flood preparation, you can pick up a package from city hall or the fire hall.
